Axalta announced that it has broken ground on new coatings facility in Jilin City, Jilin Province, China. The new 46,000-square-meter factory will produce high-performance mobility coatings, designed to meet the growing demand for coating applications for light vehicles, commercial vehicles, and automotive plastic components in China.
China is the world's largest auto market and one of the fastest growing auto markets. The Chinese market is one of the keys of growth for Axalta and its global mobility coatings business.
Axalta, a coatings manufacturer based in Glen Mills, PA, said the plant is scheduled to open in 2023 and will mainly produce basecoats, primers, and clearcoats used in Axalta's eco-friendly processes such as high solids technology. High-solid coating formulations can reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and reduce environmental impact, while providing automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with excellent paint appearance and significantly increasing productivity. The company has been operating in Jilin Province since 1984, an Axalta spokesman said.
Earlier this year, Axalta also expanded its a waterborne-coatings in Shanghai, opened a Refinish Training Center in Guangzhou, and acquired a Chinese wire enamels company.
